Youth Leadership in Activism

Youth Leadership in Activism (YLA) is a volunteer leadership program at AIUSA encompassing four member leader roles: Peer Trainers, Student Activist Coordinators (SAC), Slack Community Managers, and Social Media Managers. Through these roles, youth leaders provide AIUSA student groups and activists with peer-to-peer coaching, training, resource-sharing, and engagement opportunities, strengthening our collective ability to protect and defend human rights.

Each position requires a unique skillset and the day-to-day responsibilities do not overlap, so it is important to assess your interest in and qualifications for each role individually as well as your overall capacity to meet the time commitments of each role. We encourage applicants to take stock of the different roles you hold inside and outside of Amnesty and determine if you have time for, and interest in, multiple roles. In addition, as part of our work to ensure accessibility and diversity among AIUSA’s member leadership, it is important that leadership opportunities be distributed across AIUSA’s membership, rather than a few people holding several roles. In addition to the responsibilities in the position description, member leaders are expected to be in good communication with their team and AIUSA staff, join monthly calls with other youth leaders and staff, and complete a short monthly report of their work. If selected for one of the roles in this application, are you available July 29-31, 2022 for the annual youth leadership training? If not, please describe; while this is a required component of the roles, limited exceptions will be considered. Note: This training may be held in person or virtually depending on the role you hold and the status of the pandemic. We will assess safety and public health measures as it gets closer.
