Amnesty International USA is excited to be hosting the 2022 Virtual Annual general meeting.
AIUSA’s Virtual AGM will provide a space for people to come together to increase knowledge, build skills, and exchange ideas and strategies for progressing a human rights agenda! Like in 2021, this year, given the pandemic, we will be hosting one V-AGM’22 over 3-days, March 4th – 6th.
Given our theme of Resilient Activism we will focus on how we have and will continue to pursue justice no matter what the obstacles. For over 60 years we have been uniting action-takers and change-makers from the world over. Together we will continue our fight for human rights!
This year’s V-AGM’22 offers dozens of sessions which cover an array of human rights issues such as Labor Rights Defenders in Central America, Prisoners of Conscience in India, the Crisis of Refugees and Internally Displaces Persons, Ending Gun Violence here and abroad, Human Rights in Myanmar and Gender based Violence in Turkey. Check out the agenda for a full list of sessions offered.
Please see the agenda on WHOVA for most updated program.

Please note, according to AIUSA’s bylaws, members must be in good standing at least 50 days prior to the AGM in order to vote. This year’s record date is January 13th, 2022. Please make sure you renew your membership prior to this date. If you have any questions about your membership, please contact [email protected].
According to the Membership Resolutions Process (MRP), resolutions must be submitted in the fall and go through the working parties and voting plenary of the Virtual Activism Conference (VAC) to move forward to the Annual General Meeting (AGM). For the 2022 AGM, we will be holding a virtual conference again using the ClearPicture platform for working parties and voting as we have done for the past few conferences. More details on accessing the platform to follow. You can find the National Resolutions Committee’s report on the VAC on the Member Center on the Resolutions page under the Governance Section. You can also find the MRP on that page.
The National Resolutions Committee would like feedback on updating the Membership Resolution Process to better adapt to AIUSA’s current needs and technology. Please feel free to contact them at [email protected], for information on resolutions in general, emergency resolutions for the AGM or to get answers to any specific questions you may have as well as to provide feedback on the process. You may also contact Aashka Merchant, Governance Officer, at [email protected] on any governance questions or comments you may have.

We know zoom and general tech fatigue is real. Check out our tips below on how to take care of yourself and stay energized throughout our conference weekend.
At AIUSA, we are dedicated to fostering a virtual community that is open to learning and incorporating IDEA values into our work spaces. Members of our virtual community agree to incorporate these principles into each of our interactions.
Be open to giving and receiving feedback about the effectiveness of virtual meetings – As we consider overall meeting burden, be mindful of the amount of time scheduled and the ways in which we each process information individually. Also consider whether (or not) a meeting is the most effective form of communication for the objective. This should also speak to the importance of discussing meeting effectiveness with each other in an open, honest and respectful way.
Manage speaking time and make space for different voices – Consider community members who haven’t yet spoken (before you speak multiple times).
Be as present as possible and manage distractions as best you can – Understand that managing distractions does not mean eliminating distractions.
Be mindful when recording meetings/downloading chat – If meetings are being recorded, the community should be made aware. The same applies for if/when the host plans to downloads the chat.
Consider questions, comments or feedback that may be better suited for sharing offline or in a 1:1 conversation rather than on the call; determine the best course of action accordingly – This may include both critical and constructive feedback. We agree to use our best judgement.
Join calls by video when possible and stay on mute when not speaking. Recognize and respect that others may have limitations regarding the use of video – This pertains to large group calls. For smaller team/1:1 meetings, the directive expectation should come from the host/meeting lead.
Make considerations depending on your meeting community – Not every agreement will apply to every meeting/situation, and agreements may apply differently based on your meeting role (i.e. facilitator vs. participant).
Onsite Registration is now open!
To register please email [email protected] and receive a special code and instructions to complete onsite registration.
Please note our Member Services team is required to verify each individual’s membership status prior to the conference and will need lead time in order to do so. If you register after these deadlines and would still like to participate in the Working Parties and/or Voting Plenary at the V-AGM’22, please contact Aashka Merchant at [email protected] as soon as possible. Please note, while there is no guarantee that you will be able to vote if you miss this deadline, our team will do its best to accommodate late registrations. We will need at least 24 hours’ notice to provide voting credentials. More information on voting can be found on the Governance tab.
There are two tickets for the V-AGM’22. Both tickets will grant you access to the full 3-day conference.
For the V-AGM’22, AIUSA will be offering a subsidy to cover registration costs covering the 3 day conference. The subsidies are intended for active AI members and activists or those hoping to become active that would otherwise be unable to attend the conference due to financial constraints.
